About Our Program
The NYU Program for Surgical Weight Loss, one of most highly regarded and experienced centers of its kind, offers several types of bariatric surgery, including the laparoscopic adjustable gastric band, or Lap-Band - the safest, least invasive, and only reversible surgical option now available.
Preparing You For Surgery
Prepare for surgery and heal faster! NYU Medical Center offers a unique mind-body program to help you feel profoundly peaceful in the days before your operation. In turn this peace will create the biochemistry of healing and speed your recovery. Find out more at www.healfaster.com.

Also, educational material is provided for you before and during your hospitalization.

Surgical Technique
Our surgical staff is trained in the most advanced techniques of laparoscopic bariatric surgery. Dr. Ren has the most experience in performing Lap-Bands in the U.S. (550 operations) and Dr. Fielding not only has the most experience in the world (2,300 weight-loss operations), but he has been instrumental in the development of laparoscopic surgery! In fact, not only does one of our nurses have a Lap-Band, but our surgeon Dr. Fielding has had one!
We also have a team of experienced anesthesiologists, operating room staff, and nurses who know how to care for obese patients.

The University’s medical and surgical sub-specialists are available to care for any related medical problems. NYUMC provides all the supports necessary to ensure your success. Even the support staff and building service departments understand the vulnerability that most patients feel during their stay with us.

Follow-up
We are equipped to help you through the process after surgery with our monthly support groups (Elliot Bardavid, C.S.W), unlimited follow-up with our dedicated nutrtionist (Barrie Wolfe, R.D.), availability of our dedicated psychologist who specializes in behavior modification (Warren Huberman, Ph.D.), and monthly follow-up appointments with our surgeons and staff who understand what life is like after weight-loss surgery.
