Information Sessions

You are required to attend an information session before coming in for a consultation. The sessions are held at the NYU Medical Center at 550 First Avenue. Click here for the schedule and room location.

Insurance Coverage

Dr. Ren participates with:
  • Oxford Freedom Plan (Provider Oxford ID: P2112397)
  • Freedom Plan Select
For any other plan, it would be out-of-network coverage. If you do not belong to any of the above plans, check with your insurance company for your out-of-network coverage.
Please call your insurance company and make sure you have covered benefits for morbid obesity surgery ("Does insurance cover surgery for weight loss?"). When you come in for your consultation, be sure to bring in the name and number of the insurance representative with whom you spoke.

Meeting with the Psychologist

You will need to see the psychologist, Dr. Warren Huberman, before coming in for a consultation. Choosing surgical weight-loss is a serious decision, and it is important to make sure that you are ready for the changes in your lifestyle it will bring.

Your Surgical Consultation

Once you have been cleared by the psychologist, you may call Dr. Ren’s office at (212) 263-3166 to make an appointment for a surgical consultation. Consultation days are Tuesday and Wednesday, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Take elevator F to the 10th floor

When you come in for your appointment, you must bring:
  • a full history and current physical from your primary doctor or referring doctor
  • a recent photograph
  • a list of weight-loss programs and diets you have followed with the approximate weight-loss within the past 2-5 years
  • You must be accompanied by a family member or partner on the day of your consultation.
